How StackRank ranks AI tools
Ranked, not sold.
StackRank is an independent AI-tool rankings site. Rankings follow this method only, and payments never affect rank.
Sponsored placements and affiliate relationships never change a tool's position, score or inclusion.
Scoring criteria
Each ranking covers one builder task. The planned score inputs are: output quality for the task, cost at hobby scale, lock-in and export, integrations (MCP, API, CLI, IDE, engine), and momentum (repo activity and community signal).
Current status (v0): rankings are editorial orderings and have not been benchmarked. No numeric scores, prices or stats are shown until verified.
How often rankings update
New releases are ingested daily. Rankings are reviewed weekly, and each change is recorded so rank movements can be shown. Tool links and descriptions are re-verified on each pass; “Last verified” shows the date.
What the labels mean
- Sponsored: a paid placement. Always labeled with the word “Sponsored”, never given a rank number, and never placed inside a ranked list.
- Editor's Pick: chosen by StackRank editors. Never paid.
- Affiliate link: StackRank may earn a commission if you sign up. It never affects ranking.
- Verified: not in use yet. A tool will only show this badge once its vendor has confirmed its listing details in writing; no tool has it today.
- Archived / renamed: the tool is no longer maintained (archived tools aren't ranked) or has a new name.
Scope
We cover vibe coding, AI agents, game dev and ship & grow tools only. General office, HR and marketing AI tools are excluded.
